Sara Gergurich has built a commendable career in Special Education. She holds a Credential for Early Childhood Special Education and a Master's degree in Special Education. Sara taught for 15 years with the San Marcos Unified School District, focusing on supporting children with mild, moderate, and severe disabilities, including those considered medically fragile. Her expertise lies in assessing students and writing and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) that cater to the unique needs of each child, ensuring they receive the best possible start in their educational journey. Working closely with various service providers such as Speech, OT, PT, APE, VI, O&M, DHH, etc., Sara's dedication to her field is evident in her thorough understanding of early childhood development and her ability to work closely with families to provide tailored support. In her work in Early Intervention, Sara gained a comprehensive perspective of Special Education, from the Intake Process to annual IEPs, and Transition IEPs. She has placed students in a range of programs, including General Education, Special Education, and Specialized programs. Working as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) and Educational consultant, Sara has further worked with Elementary, Middle, and High School Students with IEPs, 504s or going through the Student Study Team (SST) process.
Sara skillfully balances her professional aspirations with her responsibilities at home. Her 6-year-old son, currently in first grade, benefits from her deep understanding of child development and her passion for special education. Sara's personal experiences, including managing her child's food allergies (all dairy and peanuts), as he goes through an intensive treatment program, further enhance her empathetic approach toward the families she works with. Recognizing a significant need within her community, Sara started IEP Insights a special education consulting business in San Marcos, CA.
This business is dedicated to empowering families to actively participate in educational decisions by providing the knowledge and guidance necessary to navigate the special education process and ensure that families understand their rights and can confidently ask questions to obtain the information needed for informed decision-making.
